Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta frames and lenses

Where it fits in smart glasses

Co-develops, makes and sells Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses with Meta, including prescription and Transitions lenses; over 7 million AI-glasses units sold in 2025 (2025 URD); wearables manufacturing in Dongguan and, from H2 2026, Agordo (Italy); waveguide/adaptive-lens JDA with Applied Materials (June 16, 2026).

What the evidence establishes

Smart-glasses evidence

Disclosed: EssilorLuxottica’s releases and 2025 Universal Registration Document describe the Meta partnership, over 7 million AI-glasses units sold in 2025 and its own wearables manufacturing.

An explicit smart-glasses product, design-in, supply role, program, application page or partnership, including wrist or ring input sold with glasses. For a device maker, it means the company’s own glasses, not a supplier relationship. This does not establish revenue, market share, volumes or future sourcing.

Listed as a device maker for its own glasses, not as a supplier of the parts inside.

Keep in perspective

AI glasses are a small part of a large eyewear business. Meta’s stake in EssilorLuxottica (at least 3%) is reported, not shown in its share-capital disclosure.

Diversified business exposure. This describes the breadth or role of the business; it is not an investment rating. A smart-glasses product, design-in or partnership does not by itself establish material glasses revenue, market share, or future returns.

Connections to the assembly

These links explain the technology relationship. The model is illustrative and does not represent an actual manufacturer’s bill of materials.

Front cover lens

The world-side lens protects the gratings and can darken outdoors (photochromic or electrochromic). An air gap keeps total internal reflection working in the plate behind it.

Scope of the company links: EssilorLuxottica supplies the lenses for Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses, including Transitions photochromic lenses (EssilorLuxottica releases, Sept 18, 2025 and June 23, 2026). Snap describes electrochromic lenses in Specs; electrochromic dimming suppliers (Snap Specs, Xiaomi, XREAL) are not identified.

Prescription lens

Vision correction sits on the eye side, bonded to the waveguide or as a removable insert. This is a minus lens, thicker at the edge.

Scope of the company links: Prescription lenses for Meta glasses come through EssilorLuxottica (Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 with individual prescription lenses; three Rx-able Meta Glasses styles). HOYA Vision Care and other ophthalmic lens makers have no disclosed smart-glasses program in our sources.

Front frame & bridge

The rim holds the lens stacks and houses the camera, display engine and a microphone. Materials range from acetate or nylon (TR90 on Snap Specs) to magnesium on Meta Orion.

Scope of the company links: EssilorLuxottica designs and makes Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta frames; Warby Parker designs frames for the Android XR eyewear with Google and Samsung; Kering Eyewear is developing Android XR glasses (partnership, May 2025; no product yet). Luxshare reports R&D on 3D-printed precision metal frames for AI glasses (sample trial production, 2025 annual report). Gentle Monster is private.

Temple housing

Each temple is a thin-walled shell around a board, cell and speaker, tapering behind the ear. Slim temples are a design goal.

Scope of the company links: Temple shells are built by the frame maker or the ODM that integrates the electronics: Goertek discloses AI-glasses ODM/JDM work, and Luxshare lists AI glasses among its system-integration products.

Hinge

A multi-knuckle barrel hinge lets the temple fold; iFixit found tiny T3 screws in Meta Ray-Ban Display’s hinges. The pin sits behind the display engine, so the engine stays aligned with the lens when the temple folds.

Scope of the company links: Frame makers integrate hinges; no standalone smart-glasses hinge supplier is verified.

Seals, adhesive & fasteners

Bonded seams and gaskets give IPX4 (Ray-Ban Meta) up to IP67 (Oakley Meta Vanguard), but make the battery very hard to replace.

Scope of the company links: Final assembly and sealing: EssilorLuxottica reports its own wearables manufacturing (Dongguan; Agordo, Italy, from H2 2026); Goertek discloses AI-glasses ODM work, and KGOnTech attributes Meta Ray-Ban Display assembly to it (Oct 30, 2025; not confirmed by Meta or Goertek); Luxshare lists AI-glasses system integration. Adhesive and gasket material suppliers are not mapped.
