How this system works
The structural and interconnect parts: one half of the front frame with its end piece, the front of a temple, a multi-knuckle hinge, the flex circuit that loops around the hinge axis, and the seals and fasteners.
The frame hides the electronics and fits the face. A multi-knuckle hinge lets the temple fold while a flexible circuit loops around the hinge axis, carrying display, camera, audio and power lines through thousands of folds.

What to look for: The flex service loop wrapping the hinge pin, the metal core wire inside the temple, and the seam gasket.
Compare the right roles
Brand, frame maker or assembler?
Eyewear companies design and make frames and lenses, while contract manufacturers assemble the electronics. The two roles earn money differently, so compare like with like: EssilorLuxottica, Warby Parker and Kering are eyewear makers, and Goertek and Luxshare are contract manufacturers.
Who assembles Meta’s glasses?
EssilorLuxottica says it co-develops and makes Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in its own wearables plants, in Dongguan and, from the second half of 2026, in Agordo, Italy. KGOnTech attributes the engine and assembly of Meta Ray-Ban Display to Goertek (Oct 30, 2025); neither Meta nor Goertek has confirmed.
EssilorLuxottica makes Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta frames and lenses in its own wearables plants. Warby Parker co-develops Android XR eyewear frames, Kering Eyewear is developing Android XR glasses, and Goertek and Luxshare integrate AI glasses.
Open each company below for its source and limitations. Sector membership does not establish a confirmed supply contract.
Inside the assembly
Front frame & bridge
The rim holds the lens stacks and houses the camera, display engine and a microphone. Materials range from acetate or nylon (TR90 on Snap Specs) to magnesium on Meta Orion.
Stock-link scope: EssilorLuxottica designs and makes Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta frames; Warby Parker designs frames for the Android XR eyewear with Google and Samsung; Kering Eyewear is developing Android XR glasses (partnership, May 2025; no product yet). Luxshare reports R&D on 3D-printed precision metal frames for AI glasses (sample trial production, 2025 annual report). Gentle Monster is private.

Temple housing
Each temple is a thin-walled shell around a board, cell and speaker, tapering behind the ear. Slim temples are a design goal.
Stock-link scope: Temple shells are built by the frame maker or the ODM that integrates the electronics: Goertek discloses AI-glasses ODM/JDM work, and Luxshare lists AI glasses among its system-integration products.
Hinge
A multi-knuckle barrel hinge lets the temple fold; iFixit found tiny T3 screws in Meta Ray-Ban Display’s hinges. The pin sits behind the display engine, so the engine stays aligned with the lens when the temple folds.
Stock-link scope: Frame makers integrate hinges; no standalone smart-glasses hinge supplier is verified.
Hinge-crossing flex
A multilayer polyimide flex carries display, camera, audio and power lines between the front and the temple, looping around the hinge axis so it survives repeated folding.
Stock-link scope: GAP: no listed flexible-circuit maker is verified for glasses hinge interconnects.
No verified direct company match in the current universe.
Seals, adhesive & fasteners
Bonded seams and gaskets give IPX4 (Ray-Ban Meta) up to IP67 (Oakley Meta Vanguard), but make the battery very hard to replace.
Stock-link scope: Final assembly and sealing: EssilorLuxottica reports its own wearables manufacturing (Dongguan; Agordo, Italy, from H2 2026); Goertek discloses AI-glasses ODM work, and KGOnTech attributes Meta Ray-Ban Display assembly to it (Oct 30, 2025; not confirmed by Meta or Goertek); Luxshare lists AI-glasses system integration. Adhesive and gasket material suppliers are not mapped.
