ASPEED Technology

BMC chips (AST2600, AST2700) for AI servers

Where it fits in an AI server rack

Lenovo’s GB300 NVL72 product guide lists an ASPEED AST2600 as the compute tray’s BMC server-management chip, and an NVIDIA engineer’s QEMU patch (July 3, 2025) models the GB200 NVL72 BMC on the AST2600. ASPEED’s 8th-generation AST2700 (12 nm, quad Cortex-A35) targets high-power AI servers; its chair said on July 30, 2026 that AST2700 volume production began ahead of schedule.

What the evidence establishes

AI-rack evidence

Partner-disclosed: Lenovo’s GB300 NVL72 product guide names ASPEED’s AST2600 as the tray BMC; ASPEED’s product page targets the AST2700 at AI servers.

An explicit AI-server or AI-rack product, design-in, supply role, program, reference design or partnership, such as a part named for rack-scale AI systems or a product sold for AI data centers. For a rack builder, it means the company’s own AI servers or racks. This does not establish revenue, market share, volumes or future sourcing.

Keep in perspective

The patch identifies the BMC SoC in NVIDIA’s reference GB200 NVL72 compute tray; OEM trays and later racks may differ. Share figures (often 70–80%) are broker estimates, not ASPEED disclosures, and the chair’s comments come from press coverage.

Specialist business exposure. This describes the breadth or role of the business; it is not an investment rating. An AI-server product, design-in or partnership does not by itself establish material AI-rack revenue, market share, or future returns.

Connections to the assembly

These links explain the technology relationship. The model is illustrative and does not represent an actual manufacturer’s bill of materials.

Baseboard management controller

A small always-on chip that monitors power, temperature and fans, updates firmware and lets operators reach the tray out of band, often with a hardware root of trust.

Scope of the company links: Lenovo’s GB300 NVL72 product guide names an ASPEED AST2600 as the compute tray’s BMC, and an NVIDIA engineer’s QEMU model of the GB200 NVL72 BMC (July 3, 2025) is built on the same chip; ASPEED targets its 12 nm AST2700 at high-power AI servers. Nuvoton markets its Arbel NPCM8mnx BMC for AI servers with no named customer. BMC share figures (often 70–80% for ASPEED) are broker estimates, not company disclosures. Hyperscalers’ in-house root-of-trust chips are not mapped.
