COMPANY RESEARCH / MKSI

MKS Inc.

Pressure gauges, flow and valve products for vacuum

Where it fits in a quantum computer

Its Vacuum Solutions Division makes pressure measurement and control products, flow and valve technologies and gas-composition analyzers, and MKS sells research products to government, university and industrial laboratories (FY2025 10-K, filed February 24, 2026).

What the evidence establishes

Lab & test products

Disclosed: MKS’s FY2025 10-K describes its pressure-measurement, flow and valve products and its sales to research laboratories; use in quantum computers is not established.

A documented cryogenic, vacuum, microwave or test-and-measurement product used in physics labs or electronics test. Adoption in quantum computers is not established by the cited source.

How we knowDisclosed The company’s own filing, release, annual report, product page or investor record describes the quantum-computing role. Where customers are unnamed, the listing says so.

Keep in perspective

The 10-K names no dilution refrigerator or quantum customer, and the division centers on semiconductor, electronics and industrial customers. Use in quantum computers is an inference from the product category.

Diversified business exposure. This describes the breadth or role of the business; it is not an investment rating. A quantum-computing product, design-in or partnership does not by itself establish material quantum revenue, market share, or future returns.

Connections to the assembly

These links explain the technology relationship. The model is illustrative and does not represent an actual manufacturer’s bill of materials.

Valves & fittings

Pneumatic and manual vacuum valves, bellows lines, clamps and fittings that route the mixture through its cold traps, pumps and tank.

Scope of the company links: Pneumatic valves, a gate valve, a needle valve and back-pressure valves route the mixture between the still, the pumps, the cold trap and the storage tank. Bluefors’ 2016 manual integrates most tubes and vacuum valves in an aluminum block custom-developed with VAT, with standard VAT actuators, and VAT says it supplies vacuum and gas-dosing valves for dilution refrigerators. Bluefors has standardized on Swagelok tube fittings and high-pressure panels wherever pure helium runs at high pressure; Swagelok is private. MKS makes valves for vacuum processes without a documented quantum role, and Parker-Hannifin was checked and is not mapped.

Gauges & controllers

Pressure gauges and flow meters on every line, read by the controller that sequences cooldowns and watches for leaks.

Scope of the company links: Pressure gauges on each line, a flow meter on the circulation path and a controller that switches valves and pumps run the gas handling system. Bluefors’ 2016 manual reads its gauges through a Pfeiffer MaxiGauge TPG 256 six-channel controller and switches valves and reads the flow meter through a National Instruments USB-6008 data-acquisition device; National Instruments is now part of Emerson. Its Gen 2 system (2024) moved to a PLC with EtherCAT and ‘latest generation’ gauges whose makers are not named. INFICON and MKS sell vacuum gauges and controllers to research labs without a documented dilution-refrigerator role.
