HOYA

High-index glass wafers for AR waveguides

Where it fits in smart glasses

High-index optical glass wafers for diffractive AR/MR waveguides (Optics Division).

What the evidence establishes

Upstream enabler

Upstream enabler: HOYA’s Optics Division markets high-index optical glass wafers for diffractive AR/MR waveguides; no named customer.

Materials, substrates, equipment or foundry capacity behind glasses components. This is not a component supplier or an established smart-glasses revenue stream.

How we knowPositioning A dedicated smart-glasses product, reference design or application page, with no named customer. Marketed for smart glasses; not a disclosed design win.

Keep in perspective

Customer unnamed. HOYA Vision Care has no smart-glasses prescription program in our sources, so HOYA is not linked to lenses.

Diversified business exposure. This describes the breadth or role of the business; it is not an investment rating. A smart-glasses product, design-in or partnership does not by itself establish material glasses revenue, market share, or future returns.

Connections to the assembly

These links explain the technology relationship. The model is illustrative and does not represent an actual manufacturer’s bill of materials.

High-index waveguide plate

Light bounces along the plate by total internal reflection. A higher index allows a wider field of view: optical glass is about 1.8-2.0, silicon carbide about 2.6-2.7.

Scope of the company links: Upstream wafer suppliers that market high-index glass, polymer or SiC for AR waveguides. SICC reports initial AR/VR use with unnamed optics customers, still in customer validation; none names a shipping glasses program. The reflective waveguide glass in Meta Ray-Ban Display is reportedly SCHOTT’s (private).
