SMART GLASSES / THE LINK

Wireless & antennas

Bluetooth keeps an always-on, low-power link to the phone, and Wi-Fi moves photos and video. Antennas have to hide in a small frame right next to the head.

How this system works

A Wi-Fi/Bluetooth radio, RF front-end and filters, a trace antenna under the temple surface and its feed and matching network. Much of this may be integrated with the SoC platform: Qualcomm pairs AR1 Gen 1 with its FastConnect 7800 system.

A combined Wi-Fi/Bluetooth radio feeds a trace antenna hidden in the frame through a tuned matching network. The head, battery and hinges absorb or detune radio energy, so antenna placement matters.

What to look for: The meander trace under the temple’s upper surface and the thin coax from the shielded radio.

Why are there no listed antenna suppliers?

Antennas are often custom traces built by the frame or module assembler, and no listed antenna maker is documented for glasses in our sources. We show the gap rather than fill it.

Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

Both. Bluetooth keeps the always-on phone link, and Wi-Fi moves photos and video quickly. Qualcomm pairs AR1 with its FastConnect radio, and several glasses chips integrate Bluetooth.

Most glasses radios are built into the chip platform: Qualcomm pairs AR1 with its FastConnect radio, and Bestechnic and Actions integrate Bluetooth in their glasses chips. No listed antenna or RF front-end supplier is verified.

Inside the assembly

Wi-Fi / Bluetooth radio

A combined radio keeps a low-power Bluetooth link to the phone and uses Wi-Fi for photo and video transfer. Shipping glasses list Wi-Fi 6 up to Wi-Fi 7.

Stock-link scope: Qualcomm pairs AR1 Gen 1 with FastConnect 7800 (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4; AR1 product brief). Bestechnic (BES2800BP: Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 6.1) and Actions (Bluetooth 6.0) integrate radios in glasses SoCs. Nordic’s nRF52840 is the Bluetooth radio in Blucap Moto HUD sunglasses (Nordic release) and Brilliant Labs Frame. NXP (IW611), ST (BLE) and Synaptics (headsets) market radios.

RF front-end & filters

Switches, amplifiers and filters sit between the radio and the antenna; at glasses power levels they are often integrated into the radio.

Stock-link scope: GAP: usually integrated in the combo chip or module; no RF front-end or filter supplier is verified for glasses.

No verified direct company match in the current universe.

In-frame antenna

A copper trace on a plastic carrier or flex, tuned for 2.4/5/6 GHz and placed where the head, battery and metal hinges detune it least.

Stock-link scope: GAP: no in-frame antenna supplier is verified. Sunway Communication’s 2026 interim report has no glasses mention (checked 2026-09-23), so it stays excluded.

No verified direct company match in the current universe.

Feed & matching network

A micro-coax and a few passive parts connect the antenna to the radio; the matching is tuned with a head in place.

Stock-link scope: GAP: no micro-coax or matching-component supplier is verified.

No verified direct company match in the current universe.
