HUMANOID ROBOTICS / THE EYES

Cameras & vision

Cameras and depth sensors turn the world into usable data. Vision systems estimate distance, recognize objects, and help a robot navigate safely.

How this system works

Light passes through an optical stack to the image sensor and its supporting electronics.

The lenses form an image on the sensor, whose pixels convert incoming light into electrical signals.

Compare the right roles

Who makes the sensor, and who builds the camera?

Image-sensor manufacturers, optical suppliers, camera vendors, and vision-system integrators have different roles. A complete camera product does not prove standalone lens or sensor fabrication.

Is industrial machine vision a humanoid design win?

It establishes a robotics-related capability. A named humanoid customer, product, or application requires its own supporting disclosure.

Sony and onsemi bring image-sensor capability. Cognex offers more focused industrial machine-vision exposure, with a different role from onboard camera silicon.

Inside the assembly

Lens barrel & mount

The mechanical mount keeps the optics aligned with the sensor and defines the camera’s packaging.

Stock-link scope: Optical and camera-module integration; these companies are not all independent lens-barrel manufacturers.

Optical lens stack

Multiple lens elements focus incoming light. Complete camera suppliers integrate the optics with the sensor.

Stock-link scope: Sunny manufactures imaging optics as well as camera modules. Camera integrators and laser illumination suppliers are kept separate.

CMOS image sensor

A pixel array converts light into electrical signals. Global shutters can reduce motion distortion.

Stock-link scope: CMOS image-sensor suppliers. Lidar, complete cameras, and robot-guidance software are different perception layers.

Readout & interface board

Timing, power, and interface electronics transfer image data to the robot’s perception computer.

Stock-link scope: Camera systems, readout/control silicon, and interface connectors. Amphenol supplies interconnects, not image processors.
